Trek / Gary Fisher Bike Demo at Haw Ridge

Postby BootStrapBill » Wed Sep 30, 2009 3:10 pm

It is that time of year again when CBC will be hosting their annual Trek / Gary Fisher Bicycle demo. This year it will be Sunday October 18th 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM at Haw Ridge Park. Along with having a solid stash of 2010 bicycles we will be serving hamburgers, hotdogs and plenty of cold beverages. We will also have a limited selection of the new electronic assist and belt drive bikes available for test rides. http://www.trekfactorydemo.com/region.php?region_id=2&type=7

I'm out of town that weekend and bumming. I was hoping to see a Session or a Scratch. Pretty cool looking bikes.

We probably won't have a Session or a Scratch at the demo. We should have the Roscoe’s and the Remedy which will be a little more all mountain. I have two Remedy demos on the floor now. If you are serious about demoing a Session or a Scratch I might be able to set it up but we would most likely need to go over to Asheville during the week.

Don't worry about it. I'm not that serious since I just dropped 3 g's on a transmission for my box truck today. Yay, I am so excited about that, way better than a new bike.

Despite all the rain we have had the Trek / Gary Fisher Demo is still planned for this Sunday from 10 AM - 4 PM at Haw Ridge.

Crap, can't believe I missed the post on this. Would have liked to have come. Oh well, how were the trails?

The trails were pretty good. I demo'd a Carbon Remedy and wanted to take it on the bigger climbs (and descents) so I took it staight up V Trail to Ridge. The trail up there was perfect and even on the lower trails on the way back in, they were surprisingly good with just the usual wet spots.

I won't be buying one, but the electric bike was pretty cool. Great to put a spouse on for Greenways rides or for a commuter that doesn't want to kill himself on the climbs.

except for TJ - this was a fun experience. I enjoyed meeting everyone and testing out the Trek bikes. for a guy used to hard tails, the full suspension really is a whole different world!

The full suspension bikes were quite cush coming back down the 'entrance into the park' as I call it. A huge change from my singletrack rigid frame. I am impressed with the overall quality, components and feel of these machines. My favorite is the GF hardtail. It's all business too. The controls are rock solid and they leave off the junk like gear indicators etc. The hydraulic brakes sure do make a difference. Must have on next bike.
I'm glad I had the opportunity to sample some fine machines. I know what I like for sure now.
Lastly, those carbon bikes are nice and I couldn't really tell what I was riding once I got into it. I know when you crash, a carbon bike feels just like a steel one.

@ Matt-those electric bikes make you grin before you know it. Everyone I see riding it has that same grin on their face. One of complete surprise, as if to be saying, DAM! This is cool.

yeah that electric assist bike was amazing. I could see what folks were referring to when they said "Make sure you're facing the right direction when you start to pedal hard!"
