AMBC Kids Ride

Postby King of Windrock » Sun Feb 14, 2010 11:07 pm

I have taken on the responsibility of ride director for AMBC. This is essentially providing a beginners ride for a group of kids. To do such a ride I need to have a stable of bicycles as I’m sure some kids do not have their own. I’m hoping to get a list of bikes that members might be willing to let us borrow for this cause. Helmets would also be nice. I’m looking for as many small and medium mtn bikes for a one day use. The first ride will be somewhere in the dirty South, probably Hastie and probably sometime around April. I would like to put on 3 of these events each year. In addition to bikes I would love to have a few people volunteer a couple hours of their time to help guide these kids through the woods.

This is good. It would be great if it occurs at least once when the AMBC has a good turnout like on a Tuesday night. A group mountain bike ride like we had regularly last season would leave a lasting impression. Hopeful that this year is huge too and that it rains less.

I plan to do it on a Saturday. Easier to handle. Anyway, it won't happen if people don't volunteer some bicycles. I would think that there would be plenty of small mtn bikes in peoples garages. They don't need to be fancy, just something to get around the park.

I thought about that too. I think the stock gearing would be a little tough no doubt for some kids but probably not for others. We will certainly take whatever is offered. None gave me some ideas for coming up with bicycles that the club would actually own for this purpose. I took his idea and ran with it and am hopeful for this to become something pretty cool. I'm waiting to hear back from a few different people but I'm optimistic that we may grow this thing to something the club can be proud of. I still want donor bikes to get it going. I currently own one small, one super small, and one medium that I can use. I know of another small I can borrow pretty easily. I have a pretty decent supply of helmets but I need more, lots more.

I can donate a sm/md adult Bell helmet if this helps. I do not have any kids bikes to donate as I do not have any kids.
Let me know if you want the helmet.

Hey Chris, I'm sure I will want your help and hopefully your kids participation when we do this. I've been a little swamped lately and haven't worked on this as much as I had hoped. Hopefully come April I will have more time to focus on it.
